The Greenbrier Classic, back after a one-year hiatus, wants to give golf fans from all walks the opportunity to see a PGA Tour event up close.
Weekly grounds badges for the event, scheduled for July 3-9 on the Old White TPC at The Greenbrier Resort, will be free while they last. Those complementary badges are available now at www.greenbrierclassic.com or by calling 888-598-7380. Fans also can upgrade their grounds badges to Springhouse or Clubhouse badges, which includes added amenities for the week, for an additional cost.
The tournament, now in its seventh year, had planned to offer free weekly grounds badges for the 2016 tournament. Last year's Greenbrier Classic was canceled following the devastating floods that hit West Virginia less than two weeks before the tournament was scheduled to begin. Floodwaters did significant damage throughout Greenbrier County, including the Greenbrier's golf courses.
According to the Greenbrier, reconstruction efforts to the Old White course began almost immediately, and the course should be back to its Tour-level shape.
"We're excited to be back and show the world what it means to be West Virginia strong," said Habibi Mamone, the Classic's executive tournament director.
Five-time major winner Phil Mickelson announced in October that he would play in the 2017 Classic. Mickelson had played the tournament in 2011-13. Mickelson has three top-10 finishes on the PGA Tour so far this season and currently ranks 36th in the FedExCup standings.
Additional information on player commitments and celebrity commitments for the Pro-Am held Wednesday, July 5, will be released in the coming months.
