Hot off his first PGA event win since 2004, John Daly officially put his name among those committed to the 2017 Greenbrier Classic.
Daly will make his seventh appearance on the Old White TPC Course when the tournament is held July 3-9 at The Greenbrier resort. The 51-year-old was granted an exemption to participate in the tournament, which returns this year after being canceled in 2016 due to the devastating floods that affected much of West Virginia, including Greenbrier County.
Daly is one of three top pros committed to the PGA Tour event, joining Phil Mickelson and Bubba Watson.
"We're really excited that John Daly will be joining us," said executive tournament director Habibi Mamone. "He's been a fixture at the Greenbrier Classic since its beginning, and the fans love him and flock to him to watch him play. We can't wait to see him out on the Old White TPC."
Daly captured his first PGA Champions Tour win Sunday with a one-stroke victory in the Insperity Invitational at The Woodlands, Texas. It was his first victory since winning the PGA Tour's 2004 Buick Invitational. It wasn't pretty, with Daly closing his final round with three straight bogeys, but he was able to hold on for the championship.
Daly, a two-time major champion who won 1991 PGA Championship and the 1995 Open Championship, became the 12th member of the senior tour to record a win on all three PGA Tour circuits.
Daly joins a pair of the world's top PGA Tour members in Mickelson and Watson. Mickelson was announced in October as a PGA Tour ambassador for the Greenbrier Classic and as an entrant in the 2017 tournament. He has 51 professional wins and has won five majors - three Masters, a PGA Championship and an Open Championship. It will be his fourth Greenbrier Classic appearance.
"Phil has been a great friend of The Greenbrier over the years, and we're excited to have him join us once again," Mamone said. "He's one of the game's all-time greats, and he makes our field even stronger."
Watson is a homeowner at the Greenbrier Sporting Club. The two-time Masters champion will make his fourth Greenbrier Classic appearance. His best finish was a tie for 13th in 2015.
"Bubba is one of our own, and we're always happy to have him home," said Mamone. "We expect him to have another great week at the Greenbrier Classic."
