Two more former winners of major tournaments, Webb Simpson and Keegan Bradley, committed to play in next week's Greenbrier Classic.
With the formal entry deadline at 5 p.m. Friday, the Classic gained a boost from tournament regulars who are looking to regain their top-notch form. Simpson won the 2012 U.S. Open while Bradley captured the 2011 PGA Championship.
With Simpson's commitment, he is one of 12 players planning to play in his seventh Greenbrier Classic. The Old White TPC has been a convenient destination for Simpson and his family, who reside in Charlotte, North Carolina,.
Simpson has three top-10 finishes here, including a third-place effort in 2014. He fired a final-round 63 that year but couldn't catch winner Angel Cabrera and his eagle on the par-4 13th hole.
Simpson last won at the 2014 Shriners Hospital for Children Open in Las Vegas. He ranks 59th in the world this year, down from a career high of fifth, but he is 30th in the current FedExCup standings.
Bradley, once ranked 10th in the world, has slipped to 101st after a tough 2015-16 season. He is in better position at 45th in the point standings, but hasn't had a top-three effort since March 2014.
He did tie for fourth in the 2014 Greenbrier Classic. He has played the event four times.
The Classic field now has 11 former major winners. The others are Bubba Watson, Phil Mickelson, John Daly, Vijay Singh, Cabrera, Stewart Cink, Jimmy Walker, Lucas Glover and Geoff Ogilvy.
Daly's status seems questionable after he withdrew last week from the U.S. Senior Open this week. He hasn't played since May 28.
